Pensions Commission's report starts new debate

Initial reactions to Lord Turner's second report (see Plan is to raise state pension age and encourage saving ) highlight the difficulty of building a consensus on pension reform. Although the Pensions Commission's proposals have been widely welcomed as a sound starting point for further debate, the government will be unable to take any of the proposals forward without fierce opposition from some quarters.
