National minimum wage may rise

The national minimum wage may rise on 1 October 2011, subject to the prevailing economic conditions and the Low Pay Commission's recommendations to be delivered to the Government in February 2011. 

The main (adult) rate of the national minimum wage is £5.93, and now applies to workers aged 21 and over. The development rate is £4.92 (and now applies to workers aged 18-20 inclusive), while the rate for workers aged 16 and 17 is £3.64.
