Public-sector equality duty

Overview

Public-sector organisations and other bodies exercising public functions are subject to the public-sector equality duty. The aim of the duty is to ensure that those exercising public functions actively pursue equality objectives.

The general equality duty requires public authorities to have due regard to achieving three aims when they are exercising their functions.

The specific equality duties support the functioning of the general equality duty. The specific duties are for public authorities to publish equality information, equality objectives, and gender pay gap information.
