Mandatory business closures due to coronavirus take effect

Implementation date: 26 March 2020

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 (SI 2020/350) provide that non-essential businesses must shut to reduce the public health risks posed by the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in England. The Regulations set out which businesses must close or will have restrictions imposed upon them, including drinking and eating establishments, entertainment venues, all indoor leisure and sports facilities and outdoor (non-food) markets. Breach of these Regulations will be punishable by a fine.
