The supermarket chain Asda has awarded its 122,082 store colleagues a basic pay increase of 4.05%, effective from 1 April 2005. The basic rate for an adult checkout operator or sales assistant in a London Asda store has now risen to £6.19 an hour as a result of the April pay review, while daytime sales assistants based in provincial stores now receive £5.44 an hour.
