News International: 2.9% increase

Key details

Pay award: 2.9% on basic rates

Employees covered (nos.): all staff (4,200)

Effective date: 1 July 2004

The second stage of a three-year pay deal has come into force at newspaper printing and publishing organisation News International Newspapers, effective from 1 July 2004. Around 4,200 staff at the company's sites in Wapping (London), Knowsley (Merseyside) and Kinning Park (Glasgow) are covered by the agreement which, in the absence of a recognised trade union, was negotiated with the News International Staff Association (NISA).

Under the terms of the agreement, salaries increased by the equivalent of the rise in the all-items retail prices index (RPI) over the 12 months to the end of March 2004 (2.6%), plus 0.3%.
