Youth workers: New pay structure

Key details

Pay award: 2.75% in first year of two-year deal

Employees covered (nos.): local authority youth and community workers (27,000)

Effective date: 1 September 2004

Youth and community workers' unions and local authorities have agreed a two-year pay settlement worth 2.75% from 1 September 2004 and 2.95% from 1 September 2005, shortly after concluding negotiations to introduce a new pay structure as part of the 2003 pay settlement.

The new national pay framework is designed to "set starting points for local decisions" and to allow flexibility to deal with local recruitment and retention difficulties.
