Hot weather and workplace issues

What is the maximum workplace temperature? How can employers prevent employees coming to work in clothing that is ideal for keeping cool, but inappropriate for the workplace? We have content to help employers answer these questions in preparation for the weather becoming warmer and employers having to deal with higher temperatures in the workplace.

We provide guidance on recommended temperatures in the workplace. We also provide a model dress and appearance policy that enables employers to set the standard of dress required from employees. This model policy contains a number of options, allowing employers to select the wording that is suitable for their workplace.

Our 2015 XpertHR dress codes survey analysis sets out key findings from 578 organisations, including restrictions applied and attitudes to enforcement. XpertHR's benchmarking service has full data from the survey. Benchmarking subscribers can drill down into the data and generate bespoke reports on how their organisation's dress code compares against dress codes at other organisations.
