Entitlement to statutory sick pay for those who are "shielding" introduced

Implementation date: 16 April 2020

The Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) (No.3) Regulations 2020 (SI 2020/427) provide that employees who are advised to stay at home for 12 weeks in accordance with government guidance because they are extremely vulnerable or at very high risk of severe illness from coronavirus disease (also known as shielding) and are unable to work are entitled to statutory sick pay (SSP).

The change to the rules on SSP are temporary in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
