Where an employee's partner is expecting twins will the employee be entitled to two lots of paternity leave?
No. Employees can take only one period of paternity leave even if more than one baby is born as a result of the same pregnancy. An employee does not get additional rights to paternity leave in the case of multiple births.
The right to statutory paternity leave allows an eligible employee to take paid leave to care for their child or children or to support the mother following birth. The employee can take either one week or two consecutive weeks of paternity leave. An employee is entitled to paternity leave if they have been continuously employed for a period of not less than 26 weeks ending with the 15th week before the expected date of the child's birth; are either the child's biological father or the spouse, civil partner or partner of the child's mother; and have or expect to have responsibility for bringing up the child.
