Manage an employee's parental bereavement leave
- The bereaved parent of a child who dies on or after 6 April 2020 has the right to take up to two weeks' parental bereavement leave (sometimes referred to as "Jack's Law").
- Statutory parental bereavement pay is payable to qualifying parents on parental bereavement leave.
- Some employers offer enhanced bereavement leave and pay. For example, employers could provide employees with more than two weeks' bereavement leave and pay bereaved employees their full pay for some or all of their absence.
- HR needs to ensure that line managers are sympathetic to the plight of a bereaved parent while also complying with the notice and evidence requirements under parental bereavement leave legislation.
